Book Proposal Submission Guidelines

Nancheng Press welcomes book proposals that contribute to high-quality, peer-reviewed scholarship in health, medicine, education, and related interdisciplinary fields, with particular interest in practice-informed, context-sensitive, and globally relevant work.

1. Scope of Publications

We consider proposals for the following book types:

  • Academic monographs

  • Edited volumes

  • Textbooks and training manuals

  • Professional and reference books

  • Practice-based and policy-relevant studies

Proposals may be theoretical, empirical, or practice-based. Interdisciplinary and cross-cultural perspectives are strongly encouraged.

2. Peer Review Policy

All scholarly books published by Nancheng Press are subject to a formal peer-review process, typically involving:

  • Initial editorial assessment

  • Review by at least two independent subject-matter experts

  • Editorial Board decision based on academic merit

Proposals accepted for development do not guarantee publication; final acceptance depends on successful peer review of the complete manuscript.

3. What to Submit: Book Proposal Components

Authors are requested to submit a book proposal dossier including the following:

3.1 Proposal Overview

  • Proposed title and subtitle

  • Book type (monograph / edited volume / textbook, etc.)

  • Intended audience (e.g. undergraduate, postgraduate, professionals, policymakers)

  • Estimated word count

  • Proposed language(s) (English, bilingual, or other)

3.2 Rationale and Contribution

  • Purpose and significance of the book

  • Key themes and arguments

  • Original contribution to existing scholarship or practice

  • Relevance to international or regional contexts

3.3 Table of Contents

  • Chapter titles with brief descriptions (1–2 paragraphs per chapter)

  • For edited volumes: contributor list (if available)

3.4 Market and Use Context

  • Primary and secondary readership

  • Potential use as a textbook, reference, or professional resource

  • Competing or comparable titles (if any)

3.5 Author(s) / Editor(s) Information

  • Short academic biography (100–150 words per author/editor)

  • Institutional affiliation(s)

  • Relevant publications or professional experience

3.6 Sample Material (Recommended)

  • One sample chapter or

  • A representative writing sample (published or unpublished)

4. Submission Format

  • File format: PDF or Word

  • Language: English preferred (other languages considered)

  • All documents should be clearly labelled and combined where possible

5. Editorial Assessment Process

  1. Initial review by the Editorial Office (scope and suitability)

  2. Proposal evaluation by the Editorial Board

  3. External peer feedback may be sought at proposal stage

  4. Decision outcome:

    • Invite full manuscript submission

    • Request proposal revision

    • Decline with feedback (where possible)

6. Ethical and Academic Standards

Authors must ensure that:

  • Submissions are original and not under consideration elsewhere

  • Sources are properly cited

  • Ethical approval is declared where applicable

  • Conflicts of interest are disclosed

Nancheng Press maintains zero tolerance for plagiarism or academic misconduct.

7. Publication Models

Depending on the project, books may be published as:

  • Print and digital editions

  • Institutional or commissioned publications

  • Open-access or hybrid models (where applicable)

Publication terms are discussed individually following proposal acceptance.

8. Clear Classification

All published books are clearly identified as either:

  • Peer-reviewed academic publications, or

  • Non-peer-reviewed professional or public-interest publications

This classification is stated in the front matter and metadata of each book.

Peer Review & Editorial Policy

1. Purpose and Scope

Nancheng Press is committed to maintaining high academic standards, editorial independence, and ethical publishing practices.
This policy applies to all peer-reviewed academic publications, including:

  • Academic monographs

  • Textbooks and training manuals

  • Edited volumes

  • Peer-reviewed journals

Public-facing or popular science publications are governed by separate editorial guidelines and are clearly distinguished from peer-reviewed outputs.

2. Peer Review Principles

All scholarly publications are evaluated according to the following principles:

  • Independence: Reviews are conducted by external experts independent of the authors.

  • Objectivity: Manuscripts are assessed solely on academic merit.

  • Confidentiality: All submissions and reviews are treated as confidential.

  • Transparency: The peer-review status of each publication is clearly stated.

  • Integrity: Ethical standards and academic honesty are strictly enforced.

3. Peer Review Models

Nancheng Press adopts the following review models:

  • Double-blind peer review (default for journals and academic books)

  • Single-blind peer review (where appropriate and justified)

Each manuscript is normally reviewed by at least two independent reviewers with relevant subject expertise.

4. Reviewer Selection and Responsibilities

Reviewer selection

  • Reviewers are selected based on subject expertise, academic experience, and absence of conflicts of interest.

  • Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts before accepting a review invitation.

Reviewer responsibilities

  • Provide constructive, evidence-based feedback

  • Assess originality, methodology, and scholarly contribution

  • Adhere to confidentiality and ethical standards

  • Complete reviews within the agreed timeframe

5. Editorial Screening

All submissions undergo an initial editorial assessment to determine:

  • Alignment with the publisher’s academic scope

  • Basic methodological and conceptual soundness

  • Compliance with ethical and regulatory requirements

  • Language and structural readiness for peer review

Manuscripts may be desk-rejected at this stage if they do not meet minimum criteria.

6. Author Responsibilities

Authors are required to:

  • Submit original work not under consideration elsewhere

  • Accurately represent data, sources, and authorship

  • Declare ethical approvals where applicable

  • Respond to reviewer comments in a clear and documented manner

Plagiarism, data fabrication, or unethical conduct will result in rejection or retraction.

7. Editorial Board Governance

  • Final publication decisions rest with the Editorial Board, based on peer-review reports and editorial assessment.

  • Editors do not override reviewer evaluations without clear academic justification.

  • Editorial decisions are independent of commercial or institutional influence.

8. Revision and Re-review

Based on reviewer feedback, manuscripts may be:

  • Accepted without revision

  • Accepted with minor revisions

  • Returned for major revision and re-review

  • Rejected

All revisions must be clearly documented by the authors.

9. Publication Ethics and Misconduct

Nancheng Press adheres to internationally recognised publication ethics, including:

  • Zero tolerance for plagiarism

  • Clear policies on duplicate submission and redundant publication

  • Procedures for handling corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern

  • Cases of misconduct are investigated by the Editorial Board.

10. Labelling and Transparency

All publications clearly indicate their status as either:

  • Peer-reviewed academic publications, or

  • Non-peer-reviewed public or outreach publications

This classification is stated in the book front matter, journal information, and digital metadata.

11. Post-Publication Oversight

The publisher maintains:

  • Long-term archiving and version control

  • Mechanisms for post-publication corrections

  • Academic record integrity and traceability

12. Policy Review
