The formal establishment of the China–Africa Hospital Alliance in Beijing represents a significant milestone in strengthening structured, institutional healthcare cooperation between China and African nations. Hosted by the International Exchange and Cooperation Centre of the National Health Commission, the inaugural conference brought together senior health officials and hospital leaders to establish a long-term platform for collaboration built upon shared development and mutual benefit.

Under this framework, the Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Africa has entered into a strategic research partnership with the Second People's Hospital Affiliated to Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This collaboration focuses on strengthening research capacity and promoting evidence-based development of Chinese Medicine within African healthcare systems.

The Second People’s Hospital Affiliated to Fujian University of TCM possesses substantial expertise in hospital-based clinical trials, translational research, acupuncture efficacy studies, and integrative care evaluation. Through joint research initiatives, postgraduate supervision support, and methodological training workshops, the partnership seeks to enhance the scientific foundation of Chinese Medicine practice across Africa.

As more African countries explore integrative and complementary medicine within formal health systems, robust research governance, ethical oversight, and data-driven evaluation become increasingly essential. This collaboration supports the development of sustainable academic ecosystems by encouraging co-authored publications, conference symposia, and structured mentorship pathways for emerging researchers.

The initiative directly supports Agenda 2063’s aspiration for high standards of health and well-being, while contributing to Sustainable Development Goal 3 by strengthening health research systems and to Sustainable Development Goal 4 through enhanced postgraduate training. By institutionalising research collaboration under the Alliance’s annual conference mechanism, it also exemplifies Sustainable Development Goal 17, reinforcing global partnerships grounded in mutual trust and shared progress.

Through sustained commitment to scientific integrity and cooperative development, this research partnership represents an important step toward positioning Africa as an active contributor to global Chinese Medicine scholarship and innovation.
