In a meaningful effort to promote cultural exchange and holistic health awareness, Dr. Zijing Hu, President of the Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Africa (CMAAA), delivered an inspiring public lecture at Lenasia Secondary School on 18 April 2024. The talk introduced students to the foundational principles and practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), offering them a glimpse into one of the world’s oldest and most respected medical systems.

During the lecture, Dr. Hu explained key TCM concepts such as Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, meridian theory, and the therapeutic use of acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping, and tuina massage. With engaging visuals and relatable examples, Dr. Hu emphasized how TCM views health as a dynamic balance of body, mind, and environment.

The students showed great curiosity and enthusiasm, asking thoughtful questions about how TCM approaches common ailments and how it compares with Western medicine. Some students even volunteered for short demonstrations of acupoint location and pulse reading, making the session both interactive and educational.

This outreach formed part of CMAAA’s broader mission to promote public health education and foster intercultural dialogue through Traditional Chinese Medicine. Dr. Hu expressed his hope that the lecture would spark a lasting interest in health sciences among learners and serve as a bridge between African communities and Chinese medical traditions.

The event concluded with a warm round of applause and appreciation from the school’s educators, who praised the initiative for enriching the school’s health education programme. CMAAA looks forward to expanding its school outreach initiatives in the future, continuing to build bridges between cultures and generations through the healing art of TCM.
