The Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Africa (CMAAA), together with the International TCM Medical Centre of Distinguished Sichuan Experts, proudly participated in the annual TIBA Health Awareness Day, hosted by the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (IMASA) Johannesburg Branch. This meaningful event has become a yearly tradition, dedicated to promoting health awareness, preventive care, and community well-being.

For two consecutive years, CMAAA has been a consistent participant, offering Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) services—particularly acupuncture—to the community. The positive impact of past engagements was evident this year, as several participants attended the event specifically seeking acupuncture treatment after experiencing its benefits in previous years. Their return highlights not only the effectiveness of the therapy but also the trust that the public places in TCM as a complementary healthcare approach.

A special highlight this year was the first-time participation of the International TCM Medical Centre of Distinguished Sichuan Experts. The Centre introduced the Sichuan Pestle Needle Therapy, a unique TCM practice recognized as part of China’s intangible cultural heritage. This therapy quickly gained popularity among attendees, who were intrigued by its non-invasive approach and impressed by the immediate sense of well-being it offered.

The collaboration of CMAAA and the Sichuan experts enriched the event by showcasing both continuity and innovation in TCM. The combination of familiar acupuncture services and the introduction of pestle needle therapy provided the public with a broader understanding of the diversity and depth of Chinese medicine.

The annual TIBA Health Awareness Day continues to be a vital platform for fostering intercultural health knowledge exchange and improving community access to holistic healthcare. CMAAA and the Sichuan TCM experts remain committed to contributing their expertise and strengthening the bridge between traditional Chinese medicine and community health in South Africa.
