On Saturday, 23 March 2024, the Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Africa (CMAAA) held a meaningful community outreach event in Riverlea, Johannesburg, offering free Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) consultations and treatments, with a special focus on serving the elderly population.

This event formed part of CMAAA’s ongoing commitment to promoting health and wellbeing through accessible, holistic care rooted in traditional Chinese practices. Licensed practitioners and dedicated volunteers provided acupuncture, cupping therapy, and tuina massage, targeting common age-related concerns such as arthritis, joint pain, insomnia, and fatigue.

Many elderly residents expressed heartfelt appreciation, noting relief from chronic symptoms and a renewed sense of energy and comfort. “We are grateful for this opportunity,” said one local participant. “It's not often we receive such caring and gentle treatment, especially at no cost.”

Dr Zijing Hu, President of CMAAA, shared, “This initiative reflects our deep respect for the elderly. Traditional Chinese Medicine not only treats symptoms but also nurtures vitality and balance. We are proud to serve the Riverlea community with dignity and compassion.”

In addition to hands-on treatments, the team offered health education on diet, exercise, and lifestyle practices tailored to senior health needs. Informational brochures in multiple languages helped make the knowledge more accessible to diverse attendees.

The success of the Riverlea event underscores CMAAA’s mission to bring traditional healing to modern communities, especially those often underserved. More outreach events across Gauteng are scheduled in the coming months.
