On 21 April 2024, the Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Africa (CMAAA) held a successful community outreach initiative in Mulbarton, Johannesburg, providing free Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) consultations and treatments to local residents.

The outreach aimed to make holistic healthcare more accessible to the public. Services offered included acupuncture, cupping therapy, and tuina massage, all administered by licensed TCM practitioners and supported by trained volunteers. Community members were welcomed regardless of background or medical history, with many expressing gratitude for the opportunity to receive treatment at no cost.

This initiative addressed common concerns such as musculoskeletal pain, chronic fatigue, digestive issues, and stress, using time-honoured TCM techniques. Educational guidance on lifestyle adjustments and preventative wellness was also shared, enhancing public awareness of TCM’s benefits.
Dr Zijing Hu, President of CMAAA, noted: “We are proud to serve the Mulbarton community. Traditional Chinese Medicine offers a unique and valuable contribution to public health. Through community engagement, we are building trust, sharing knowledge, and promoting integrated wellness.”
The event reflects CMAAA’s ongoing commitment to health equity, cultural exchange, and the promotion of traditional medicine in modern healthcare settings. More community service events are planned for the coming months across various regions.
