On 1 February 2025, the Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Africa (CMAAA) conducted a successful community outreach event in Robertsham, Johannesburg, offering free Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) consultations and treatments to local residents.

This community service initiative was part of CMAAA’s ongoing efforts to promote holistic health and well-being through the principles and practices of Chinese medicine. A dedicated team of qualified practitioners provided personalized consultations and hands-on treatments, including acupuncture, cupping therapy, and tuina therapeutic massage.

Throughout the day, dozens of community members from diverse backgrounds attended the event. Many expressed appreciation for the opportunity to experience authentic TCM treatments and learn more about how Chinese medicine can support their health, particularly in managing chronic pain, stress, and fatigue.

"This outreach not only helps alleviate some of the health concerns faced by our local communities but also fosters greater cultural exchange and understanding," said Dr Zijing Hu, President of CMAAA. “Our aim is to make Chinese medicine more accessible and relevant to South Africans through practical, people-centered services.”

The event also included health education sessions, where practitioners explained the principles of yin-yang balance, meridian theory, and lifestyle recommendations in line with TCM philosophy. Informational brochures in multiple languages were distributed to raise awareness about TCM’s benefits and safe practices.

CMAAA extends its sincere gratitude to all volunteers, practitioners, and community partners who contributed to the success of this outreach. Similar events are planned in other areas in the coming months as part of CMAAA’s commitment to community health and the international promotion of traditional medicine.
