On 6 October 2024, the Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Africa (CMAAA) successfully carried out a community outreach programme in Benoni, East Rand, offering free Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) consultations and treatments to the local community.

This outreach event was part of CMAAA’s ongoing mission to promote public health through holistic and culturally rooted medical care. A range of traditional therapies were offered, including acupuncture, cupping, and tuina massage, which attracted residents of all ages seeking relief from chronic pain, stress-related conditions, and other common ailments.
The event not only provided treatment but also served as a platform to educate the public about the benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Practitioners took the time to explain basic principles of TCM, focusing on balance, prevention, and natural healing.

“We are committed to bringing quality health care to all communities,” said Dr Zijing Hu, President of CMAAA. “This event in Benoni reflects our dedication to integrating traditional medical knowledge into contemporary public health efforts in South Africa.”
With growing interest in complementary and alternative medicine, CMAAA’s community service programmes continue to build bridges between cultures while providing accessible care to underserved populations.
The organisation plans to expand such outreach initiatives across the Gauteng province and beyond in the months ahead.
