On 20 October 2024, the Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Africa (CMAAA) continued its commitment to accessible healthcare by providing free Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) services to the residents of Lenasia, Benoni. This event was part of CMAAA’s ongoing community service initiative aimed at promoting wellness and public health through time-tested holistic practices.

The outreach programme offered a variety of treatments, including acupuncture, cupping, and tuina massage therapy, addressing a wide range of health concerns such as muscular pain, fatigue, stress, and chronic conditions. The event drew participation from individuals of all ages, many of whom were experiencing TCM for the first time.

In addition to providing treatment, the CMAAA team shared basic health education rooted in TCM philosophy, highlighting the importance of balance, seasonal health habits, and preventive care. The event was well-received by the local community, with many attendees expressing gratitude for the compassionate and attentive care they received.

“Our goal is to serve communities that may have limited access to alternative therapies,” said Dr Zijing Hu, President of CMAAA. “We are pleased to see growing interest and positive feedback from residents here in Lenasia.”

The CMAAA’s outreach programme continues to bridge cultures and foster health equity by integrating traditional healing systems with local community needs. The association plans to return to additional areas in the coming months as part of its mission to promote TCM across South Africa.
