On the occasion of the 183rd International Doctors’ Day, the Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Africa (CMAAA), together with the African Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Centre and the University of Johannesburg, held a unique commemorative event. Centred on the theme of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) promotion, the event not only showcased the profound heritage of TCM but also highlighted its growing presence and development in Africa.

Dr. Zijing Hu presented the appointment letter for the Angola Branch of the CMAAA.
During the event, Dr. Zijing Hu, President of the CMAAA, introduced two renowned figures in TCM history—Bian Que and Hua Tuo—who made pioneering contributions in the field of anesthesiology. Dr. Hu emphasized that TCM is not only a Chinese treasure but a shared asset of all humanity. She further elaborated on the design of the logo for the African Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Centre, noting that it incorporates the imagery of an acupuncture needle and ginseng. This symbolizes the integration of acupuncture and herbal medicine, expressing a vision of deep cultural fusion between TCM and African traditions.

The event also featured the inauguration of new regional branches of the CMAAA. Dr. Hu presented an appointment letter to Honara, the newly appointed President of the Angola Branch. With this, the Association has successfully established branches in Gabon and Angola, laying a solid foundation for the continued expansion of TCM in Africa.
At the event, students from the Acupuncture programme at the University of Johannesburg not only performed joyful traditional dances, but also participated in a fun “Acupuncture Point Location Challenge” led by their instructors. This activity skillfully combined TCM theory with interactive elements, showcasing the harmonious blend of TCM and African traditional culture.
