In a milestone event that marked deeper collaboration in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) across Southern Africa, the Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Africa (CMAAA) and the International TCM Medical Centre of Distinguished Sichuan Physicians (South Africa) partnered with the 19th China Medical Team in Lesotho to host a free TCM community service day for the local population on 25 July 2025.

This event was particularly significant as it was the first collaboration between the China medical team in Lesotho and a local TCM society, setting a precedent for future engagement and knowledge exchange.

Led by Professor Wu Hui, the team warmly welcomed the visiting delegation. In his opening remarks, Prof Wu expressed appreciation for the partnership and highlighted the importance of united efforts in bringing the benefits of Chinese medicine to communities in need.

Dr Zijing Hu, President of CMAAA, delivered a keynote address during the event, emphasizing the growing role and development of Traditional Chinese Medicine in South Africa and the wider African continent. He noted, "This collaboration signifies a step forward in deepening regional cooperation and enhancing the visibility and impact of TCM within African healthcare landscapes."

The community service provided free consultations and treatments to over 120 local residents, who responded with heartfelt appreciation. TCM practitioners offered acupuncture, herbal advice, pulse diagnosis, and lifestyle consultations—demonstrating the holistic and preventative nature of Chinese medicine.

The success of this outreach activity reflects the shared commitment of Chinese and African practitioners to advancing accessible healthcare, fostering mutual learning, and building bridges through traditional wisdom and healing practices.

The event concluded with discussions on future collaborative opportunities, aiming to strengthen regional health services and extend the reach of TCM across the continent.
