On 12 June 2024, in celebration of Staff Wellness Day, Dr. Zijing Hu, President of the Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Africa (CMAAA), delivered an engaging and enlightening public lecture to the staff of Lenasia Secondary School. The event brought together educators eager to explore holistic ways to improve their well-being, maintain youthful energy, and embrace the timeless wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
In his presentation, Dr. Hu introduced the foundational concepts of TCM as they relate to health maintenance, longevity, inner beauty, and graceful aging. He emphasized that aging is not simply a process of physical decline, but rather a natural journey that can be guided through conscious daily practices rooted in balance and harmony. Drawing from ancient Chinese health traditions, he discussed how food therapy, emotional regulation, gentle movement, and connection with nature can all support vitality and extend quality of life.

The lecture highlighted how TCM views beauty as something that radiates from inner health. Dr. Hu shared insights on how stress, poor sleep, and unhealthy habits accelerate aging, while proper nourishment, mental clarity, and energy circulation promote glowing skin and youthful vitality. He also spoke about the importance of cultivating strong qi (life energy) and maintaining organ balance to prevent premature aging and chronic fatigue.

Throughout the session, Dr. Hu offered practical guidance that staff members could incorporate into their everyday routines. Simple lifestyle adjustments—such as mindful breathing, gentle acupressure, regular sleep cycles, and seasonal eating—were introduced as ways to reduce stress, support immune strength, and promote longevity. His approachable style and deep knowledge left a lasting impression on attendees, many of whom expressed newfound interest in exploring Traditional Chinese Medicine further.
This lecture was part of CMAAA’s ongoing mission to promote Chinese medicine education and awareness in local communities across South Africa. By integrating time-honored wisdom with modern wellness concerns, Dr. Hu’s talk provided a powerful reminder that vibrant health, natural beauty, and healthy aging are not distant ideals—but achievable goals through consistent and intentional self-care.
